Frequently Asked Questions

We're here to help answer any questions you may have, please read through the general faq's about House of Windows and the products we offer.

Product

What is a cill?
The cill runs underneath the window frame and projects outwards, it is used to deflect the rain water away from the brickwork underneath.

What is a frame extender?
Frame extensions are used to make the frame thicker, useful to expose more of the window frame if the property is rendered or pebble dashed.

What is the thickness of the window frame?
The depth of the window frame is 70mm.

Are the windows internally beaded?
All window profiles supplied are internally beaded and glazed.

What colour windows do you offer?
We offer a choice of 12 colour finishes from standard white upvc to the traditional woodgrain rosewood and golden oak as well the ever-more popular contemporary colours such as grey, chartwell green, cream and black. All colours are available both sides or colour externally and white inside.

Do you offer georgian bars and lead?
Yes, we offer integral Georgian bars within the glazing unit, external Astragal bars and decorative lead designs.

What ratings and u values are your windows?
We offer A Rated windows rated by BFRC as standard and these achieve a u value no greater than 1.3. A+ Rated and A++ triple glazed windows are also available.

Do I need trickle vents?
The new building regulations state trickle vents will be required by law in the majority of situations. There are exemptions to the rule (eg listed buildings and conservation areas) and these should be discussed with your FENSA Approved Installer or local building control officer. If there are already vents fitted on the original windows, then you can fit the same sized vents on the new windows. For example, 2500mm2 EA vents can be replaced with 2500mm2 EA vents or higher. Just remember that the airflow cannot be decreased. If the existing windows do not have vents, then the replacement windows must have vents fitted to meet the requirements of the revised Approved Document F. For houses in England, that means a minimum airflow of 8000mm2 EA in habitable rooms and 4000mm2 EA in non-habitable rooms.

All upvc windows are made to measure and to your specific requirements.

Do you supply to the public?
Yes, we supply to both trade and public.

Where do you deliver and how much?
Using our own delivery vehicles and drivers we cover most of the UK Mainland for delivery. Delivery is free on all orders over £250. A delivery cost of £40 applies for orders under £250. Please visit our delivery information page for further details, alternatively contact us on 01530 515161.

How long is the lead time from order?
Production times vary depending on the specification and colour, generally lead time ranges from 3-4 weeks.

What guarantee do you offer?
All frames and profiles have a 10 year warranty, glass units 5 year warranty and hardware such as locks, handles 1 year warranty from date of delivery.

How can I place an order?
We accept verbal orders over the phone on 01530 515161, alternatively you can order through the website.

How do I pay for an order?
Payment can be made by credit and debit card over the phone or direct bank transfer. Once payment has been received, your order will be cleared for processing and manufacture.

How do I measure?
We would recommending measuring the structural opening and provide the dimensions less any fitting allowance, please refer to the measuring guide for further information.

Where can I view cross section drawings of the windows?
Please refer to the technical and downloads section for further details on profile specifications.

Do you have a showroom?
We have distribution centres across the UK but for health and safety reasons the general public are not allowed on the premises or sites.

Do you offer an installation service?
We offer a supply only service. All windows supplied are for DIY installation or by a professional window installer.

Can I return my order?
No, unfortunately as all the windows we manufacture are custom made to order we are unable to accept returns.
